Geometry & Ride Characteristics

CAD of MD Salsa Rangefinder SX Eagle 27.5+ (Identical geometry to the Rangefinder Deore 10 27.5+) (Use BikeInsights.com to compare/contrast bicycle geometries)

The geometry of the Salsa Rangefinder Deore 10 27.5+ is notably accommodating and balanced. Its headtube and seat tube angles are consistently moderate, aiming to offer a middle ground between aggressive speed and comfortable cruising. The chainstay length is uniform across all sizes, emphasizing a harmonious blend of agility and control. The BB drop is moderate, striking a balance between stability and ground clearance.

Experiencing the Salsa Rangefinder Deore 10 27.5+ on the trail offers a well-balanced mix of stability and nimbleness. The bike’s Maxxis Rekon 27.5 x 2.8″ tires offer excellent grip and cushioning, enhancing both control and comfort. The moderate headtube angle provides stable steering, making it easier to navigate through technical trails. At the same time, the moderate seat tube angle positions the rider in an efficient pedaling stance. The consistent chainstay length across all sizes ensures that the bike remains agile enough for quick turns, while the moderate BB drop adds a layer of stability, reducing the chances of tipping over during sharp manoeuvres.

  • Top Tube Length: Ranging from 568.2mm in XS to 670.1mm in XL, the bike accommodates a wide variety of rider heights. This range is more inclusive than specialized racing bikes, which often have a narrower range of sizes.
  • Stand Over Height: With heights from 678.6mm to 798.7mm, the bike ensures easy mounting and dismounting across all sizes. This is particularly useful for riders who may be new to off-road cycling.
  • Reach: The reach varies from 395mm to 489mm, allowing both shorter and taller riders to find a comfortable position. This is in contrast to many road bikes, which may offer less variability in reach.
  • Stack: The stack height is relatively consistent across sizes, ranging from 605.6mm to 633.4mm. This ensures a similar riding posture regardless of the bike size, unlike some gravel bikes that may have more significant variations.
  • Seat Tube Length: Ranging from 355mm to 508mm, the seat tube length offers flexibility in rider positioning. This is more adjustable than many traditional mountain bikes.
  • Headtube Length: Varies from 95mm to 125mm, providing a range of options for handlebar height and thus affecting the bike’s handling characteristics.
  • Headtube and Seat Tube Angles: Both angles are consistent at 68 and 74 degrees across all sizes, aiming for a balanced ride that combines stability and agility.
  • BB Drop: A consistent 58mm BB drop across all sizes offers a balanced center of gravity, which is moderate compared to extreme XC or downhill bikes.
  • Chainstay Length: A uniform 439mm chainstay length across all sizes contributes to the bike’s agility and responsiveness, setting it apart from long-distance touring bikes that often have longer chainstays for stability.
  • Fork Length and Offset: Both the fork length axle to crown and fork offset are consistent at 510mm and 46mm, respectively, contributing to the bike’s overall handling characteristics.
  • Wheelbase: Ranging from 1100.6mm to 1205.8mm, the wheelbase offers a stable yet responsive ride, which is longer than most XC bikes but shorter than many downhill bikes.
