Le Tour Update

Murrieta Man Landis is doing much better today! He sounds pretty confident: Floyd Landis produced an incredible comeback a day after saying he had lost the Tour de France, to claim the last mountain stage of the race from Saint-Jean de Maurienne to Morzine. The Phonak rider, who cracked on Thursday’s Alpine stage, crossed the…

Bike Locks

I’m fortunate enough that I don’t have to worry about locking my bike when I ride to work. For those of you who are not, you might want to think twice about the type of lock you use. Check out this video of a Kryptonite lock easily picked.

Bicycle ceiling fan

My wife is an avid fan of HGTV. Yesterday, she calls me to watch a show called the Junk Brothers. These dudes find stuff that people are throwing away and transform them into something ‘useful’. Anyhow, they found this old bicycle and transformed it into a dual ceiling fan! How cool is that!

Can you tell the difference?

The pictures above represent the same bike, but different brands. The top one is the Raleigh Lahar and the bottom one is the Woodstock 505. If the labels and stickers were taken off the bikes, do you think you would have different opinions about them? For example, I prefer to have Starbucks than Diedrich coffee….

Thief does roundabout after stealing bicycle

Berlin – Overcome with remorse at having stolen a bicycle, a thief in Germany wrote the victim a letter and fully recompensated him for the loss, police said on Monday. After the theft in the Bavarian village of Bidingen was reported, police in nearby Marktoberdorf made an appeal in a local paper for any witnesses…

Couple makes biking a business

Like a lot of Bethesda couples, Stephen and Janna Marks commute to work in downtown Washington each day. But they don’t spend their time in a corporate office, or on Capitol Hill — though they do provide great views of the landmark. Since the couple took over a Washington, D.C., bicycle tour company several years…

Ozone Action Day

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control issued an “Ozone Action Day” for the upstate on Wednesday. The department says a strong area of high pressure combined with very weak winds will lead to high levels of ozone development in some parts of the Palmetto state. The Environmental Protection Agency gives the…

Only 1% of Americans Commute By Bike

Klein says he’s heard about 1 percent of Americans commute by bicycle to work, and he’s on the mark. The Washington State Energy Office reports the number at 1.6 percent of Americans, while the number of people who commute by bike is at 15 percent in Japan and 50 percent in the Netherlands. Read…

The CELLO's Literary Foreshadowing

Recently, I’ve been clued into an interesting literary reference concerning the name of the Wandertec CELLO bike case. My uncle had been reading One Hundred Years of Solitude, the literary classic written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez in 1967. He came across a passage which would seem to be the inspiration for naming a bike case…

Close Call

Having a good offense and a great defense is a must to keep safe specially while riding your bike. On my way home from work today I had an encounter with an 18-wheeler. I was riding on the right side of the road when I heard the rumble of a diesel engine behind me. It…

Whatcha Up to?

Anyone doing anything fun this weekend? Priscilla and her lady friends are hitting the trails this Saturday. I’ll be meeting up with some coworkers on Sunday at Woods Canyon here in Sunny California.

Excuses

This weekend a few friends and I are planning to go mountain biking at the Stoney Creek trail. But the closer we get to the weekend, more and more find excuses not to go. Sure it would be more fun to have people to ride along with. But regardless, I plan on going whether I…

Luuuuucky!

I’m pretty lucky to have one of those jobs that is very open to the idea of me commuting to work by bike. Heck even the property manager of the building is cool about it. Why am I so lucky? Well its because I can bring my bike into my office. I don’t have to…

Interesting Day of Commuting

Where do I begin! Ok so today I ride the Ibex Corrida to work. Today must have been the most interesting day in my commuting history. 1. Flat tire…again 2. Got cut off 3 times going to and from work in the same exact neighborhood! 3. Shaved off 13 minutes in my commute with the…

Don't Diss the Wally World Machine

I was reading my monthly issue of Bicycling Magazine and stumbled upon an article about two guys buying a $53 Wally World Bike and converting it to race the Texas State Time Trial Championships. Here’s a reason why they are doing this: To remind themselves and everyone that we all took our first wobbling rides…

Hooray Bikes

For the most part of last week I wasn’t able to ride my bike due to the bad weather. I felt sluggish and wasn’t motivated to do anything the whole time. What made it worse is that I had to fill up on gas, get a new emission, and state inspection sticker. Which came with…
