Our video post yesterday about Bicycle Ambulances in Malawi was seen compliments of Change Your Life, Ride a Bike, as it today’s video about Bikes Not Bombs and the Village Bicycle Project. Bikes Not Bombs is dedicated to “promoting bicycle technology as a concrete alternative to war and environmental destruction” (from their homepage). They ship large containers full of bicycles (on the order of 3000 per year) to development projects in other countries.
From there, bicycles that end up in Africa often become part of the Village Bicycle Project, which helps to get bicycles in the hands of people who need them for transportation and improving their mobility. Village Bicycle Project also does a ton of other projects, such as offering courses in bicycle maintenance and general bicycle education. Check out the video below to get a better sense of these very cool programs.
