Salsa Alternator Rear Rack

I have owned this rack for the past couple of years, having purchased it to go on my Salsa Vaya Travel, since it appeared at the time to be the only rack that would work with the Alternator setup. It's an okay rack, but it's weight limit is a wimpy compared to my Tubus Cargo rack.

However, my main beef with this rack is that there is NO WAY to connect a taillight of any sort without jerry-rigging something (forcing the round plastic clamps that come with most taillights around the double-welded tubing on the back, or getting some extra piece of hardware to try to make something work). They have such a piece on their Wanderlust rear rack...why can't they put one on THIS rack? All they have are some vertical threaded barrels that for the life of me I can't find any use for in attaching a taillight. I contacted Salsa about it, and they weren't very interested in trying to improve the design. Their engineers said, when asked why a simple strap with standard mounting holes couldn't be placed on the back of the rack, "There IS no standard." Okay, so tell that to Tubus, Blackburn, etc, since they haven't ever seemed to have any problems engineering such a simple and helpful piece.

So, if you don't mind not having an option to mount a taillight on this rack, and you have the Alternator setup, this is an alright rack. It's not terribly heavy, but again, it's got a weight limit of just 33 lbs. I'm contemplating getting a Blackburn Outpost rack to see if that does a better job, or seeing if the Tubus fatbike rack would fit.
