Overview

Our inspiring overview is coming soon. For now, here is what Revelate Designs has to say:

The Joey adds carrying capacity to bikes with limited room for a frame bag, or those just needing more space. Attaching near the bike’s bottom bracket, it is ideal for carrying dense, heavy items while keeping the center of gravity low.

Designed to fit an 8 oz fuel canister, Vargo BOT, Jetboil, or 2L hydration bladder, the Joey is a must have for multi-day self supported adventures. An intricately designed compression molded foam panel along the bag’s top is paired with silicone coated compression straps for a downtube bag that won’t budge on the roughest terrain. A roll top closure allows for easy access while attached to the bike, eliminating problems with mucked up zippers in a notoriously muddy area.

Worked great velcro’d to front suspension fork on a lengthy bike packing trip. Loaded with rain gear - so lightweight and compressible and highly accessible.

Happy to have the extra cargo capacity

So far the experience has been really nice. I like the concept of this bag. Revelate Designs' products maintain a good reputation for a reason with their thoughtful designs and quality builds. I have been using this bag to carry an extra 2L of water for mountain bike rides and bikepacking trips. I haven't logged too many trail miles with it, maybe about 100 miles total, but have definitely put it through some rough and rocky singletrack sections throughout Southern Arizona. To give a better idea of the level of abuse this bag is receiving, it is installed on a hardtail mountain bike with 2.8 inch "plus" tires, and occasionally, I lock out the front suspension for extra rigidity. So for my review here, the bag does get a pretty rough ride, but not as rough as it would with smaller tires and fully rigid frame like on a gravel bike. At first, the bag shimmied down the downtube a little bit, but going back and tightening the straps again after the bag had been "broken in" seemed to do the trick for holding it in place quite well. The downtube on my mountain bike is of the wide oval shape design measuring about 2.25 inches in width, which gives the bag a good amount of surface area to cling to. The underside of my downtube also has mounts for a bottle cage, so I removed the screws to ensure the contact area of the bag would not be damaged by them. I have not tried the bag on a thinner, more circular-shaped downtube yet, but the design of the contact area on the bag appears to be accommodative of a variety of downtube shapes, as one would expect from a well-designed product. So far, so good. I hope this lasts for a nice long time. Cheers!
