Are You Ready for the Adventure?
We’re really excited for a new to us route and to bring things together for our bikepacking ride series as we cruise towards the end of summer. We’ll be heading on over to New Mexico to Ride Matt Mason’s (Monumental Loop founder) Rollin’ and Tumblin’ Route, it’s 140 miles and 13,944 feet of climbing (and descending) into pure joy.
The plan is to park across from the Forest Service station in the designated pull out/parking/staging area. 1st day will ride of Cloudcroft have a store at mile 41 at Mayhill than camp will be at Bible canyon Mile 44. 2nd day 10 miles in we will hit the weed general store and then camp at mile 98.5 at Bluff Springs, there will be an option for extra credit miles at mile 69.5(Scott Abe Trail). The 3rd and final day will have us riding through high rolls at mile 123 and then bringing it in and closing it up as we roll into Cloudcroft to complete our route. Plan on being able to carry enough water to ride 40-60 miles at minimum (if you plan on filtering and 5 litres + if you don’t) as well as enough to drink and cook with at camp.
Here’s what you can anticipate by reading about the route, as well as a recap of the ride: About the Ride on Bikepacking Roots and Ride recap by Johnny Sullivan on Bikepacking.com
This ride is advanced bikepacking with Challenging terrain, lots of climbing. We recommend a mountain bike or a minimum of 50mm tires.
Ride Pace is ride at your own comfortable pace. This is not a race. We generally ride at a party pace with many meetups and stops so we can re-group and enjoy the scenery. Campfire Cycling will always have a mechanic at the back of the ride so no one is “stuck” alone at the back or incase a mechanical issue come up.
Anticipate Temperatures to range from: 40 degrees (or slightly below) at night to low 70’s during the day.
We will be contacting everyone who signs up for the ride to make sure they are prepared for the challenge. Please sign up if you plan on joining us.
